🚢 ESCURSIONE nel DELTA del PO in Motonave (Porto Garibaldi - Isola dell'Amore - Sacca di Scardovari)

In this video, the Pasticciotti take you to the Po Delta, aboard the Motonave Dalì (www.motonavedali.com), which will take us to where the river meets the sea. After leaving Porto Garibaldi (FE), where we embarked, the actual navigation towards the North begins, skirting the Lido degli Scacchi, the Lido di Pomposa and the Lido delle Nazioni and continuing towards the Lido di Volano, the northernmost of the 7 Ferrara beaches. In the meantime, the Pasticciotti take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the sea breeze, admiring the landscape and inspecting the motorboat. Enchanted by the sea foam, which brings to mind legends of mermaids and other marine creatures, our journey continues towards the Island of Love, which is located in the municipality of Goro, in the heart of the Po Delta Park, and can only be reached by boat. The first thing you notice, even from a distance, is the Goro Lighthouse, built in the 50s to replace the old lighthouse that, due to river deposits, had moved further and further away from the sea. Uncontaminated, free and wild, the Island of Love is nothing more than a strip of sand where the dunes constantly change shape due to the wind and the tides. A nesting area for Kentish plovers and other bird species, the Island of Love is a small oasis of biodiversity and in 2007 it was listed as one of the thirteen best Italian beaches by Legambiente. Once we landed on the island, we walked along a long path lined with blackberry bushes. The temptation to pick the ripest fruit was so strong that we couldn't help it! Near the lighthouse, a sign showed us the direction to the beach, where we cooled off with a long swim in the sea. Forget about umbrellas and beach resorts! In this oasis of peace and tranquility there are only natural shelters, made of wood and branches that have swum in the sea until they reach the beach, where the only building present is the lighthouse. After drying ourselves and getting dressed, we returned aboard the Motonave, where we saw the exact point where the river meets the sea. The navigation then continued in the Veneto region, towards the Sacca degli Scardovari, a lagoon enclosed between the mouths of the Po di Gnocca and the Po delle Tolle. This area of ​​passage between fresh water and the sea takes its name from the “scardova”, a fish that was very common in the area in the 18th century. The term “sacca”, on the other hand, identifies an inlet that communicates with the open sea through a lagoon mouth. In these waters, in 1780 a small community of fishermen settled, who exploited the particularities of the territory and in perfect balance with it, dedicated themselves to fishing for freshwater fish as their main source of profit and sustenance. There is a submerged dam, which has the function of stopping the sea water in the lower part, which would otherwise go up the river damaging the crops with its salinity. In this way, free passage in the upper part is allowed only to fresh water. Meanwhile, hunger makes itself felt and the captain stops the motor vessel in a small lagoon, among reeds and seagulls that are carried in the water by a warm breeze. And here we are served! The first course is a seafood risotto with superfine Carnaroli rice from the Po Delta. The portions are abundant and a second helping is also planned! The second course, on the other hand, is a delicious mixed fried fish of freshly caught fish and vegetables. After the coffee accompanied by the Ferrarese donut, the return journey begins. The seagulls take flight and follow us for a while, almost as if they wanted to say goodbye. And here we are back in Porto Garibaldi, a little tired but very happy to have seen the Po Delta up close in all its wonder!
