Don't Start a Soapmaking Business (Without Doing This)

✨ REMINDER: These are MY OPINIONS from MY experiences. If you can't find anything nice to say, please DON'T. There's a REAL person with feelings reading your comments. (Rude or unkind words will be removed.) Hi friends. If you're considering a new soapy business venture, make sure you've done SOME of these things FIRST. #1 Become good at making soap. #2 Become good at everything else. Practice, practice, practice. And then give away those practice bars. Soapmaking isn’t a thing that you’ll just be good at through osmosis; though some will certainly pick it up quicker than others. It’s a craft that can take years to hone. (I learned how to make soap 20 years ago and didn’t start selling until 13 years later due to a variety of reasons. It probably won't take you 13 years from start to finish as it did for me! I had a very engrossing and full time job teaching kindergarten as well as doing my post-graduate work. The journey can be different for everyone!) Best advice from MY experience: Focus on your craft long before turning into the “business” side of it. Also, disclaimer, you’re not going to get rich making soap. Many of us start with either a soapmaking kit from Amazon or picking up melt and pour from Joann or Michael's. You'll need to graduate from kits long before you'll be ready to sell. You’ll also need equipment that goes far beyond anything you can purchase from a kit. Most soapmakers work in 5-10 lb batches. That’s anywhere from 50-100 oz just in oil alone! You’ll need molds, lye, oil, scents (essential oils, fo), distilled water, colorants, safety equipment, etc Some of my favorite professional soapers: 🧼 Modern Soapmaking: https://www.modernsoapmaking.com/ 🧼 Soap Queen: https://www.soapqueen.com/ 🧼 Soap Guild: https://www.soapguild.org/ 🧼 The Nerdy Farmwife: https://thenerdyfarmwife.com/ 🧼 Royalty Soaps:    / royaltysoaps   Soaping ingredients (these are NOT affiliate links): https://www.brambleberry.com/ https://www.candlesandsupplies.com/ https://www.starwest-botanicals.com/ https://nurturesoap.com/ https://www.wholesalesuppliesplus.com/ #smallbusiness #beginningsoapmaking #soapbeginner
