Hochwasser / Flutkatastrophe & Aufräumarbeiten in Wuppertal-Elberfeld - 15.7.2021

On July 15, 2021, shortly after midnight, a disaster alarm was triggered in Wuppertal. Due to massive rainfall the day before through the low "Bernd", immense damage from floods have already occurred in neighboring cities such as Hagen, Düsseldorf or Mettmann. In order to prevent the Wuppertal Dam from overflowing, the water in Radevormwald was drained in a controlled manner and directed into the Wupper, which resulted in a rapid rise in the water level. Residents in Barmen, Elberfeld and other parts of the city were asked by loudspeaker announcements to turn on the radio, to follow instructions from the local radio station “Radio Wuppertal” or “WDR 2”, not to stay in basements and to move to higher floors or other apartments. To be on the safe side, the power supply around the endangered areas and the main road was completely switched off shortly after 2 a.m. Fortunately, a flooding of the Elberfeld city center was largely prevented. Nevertheless, the water leaked out of various sewers in an uncontrolled manner. Many shops remained closed during the day because some buildings were pumped dry by the fire brigade and previously closed streets had to be cleared of mud. 0:00 Flood situation in the night of July 15, 2021 2:31 Water level during the day & clean-up work in the city center Visit us on Facebook:   / paralaxskunterbuntevideowelt   #Flood2021 #disaster #Wuppertal
