This is a video tutorial on how to create the Native Instruments' Stem Files with the Free Stem Creator Software for use with Traktor Pro-2! You have probably heard of Stems by now, either from Native Instruments, the developer, or seen them for sale on Beatport, Traxsource or another digital music distributor's site. Stems are for the next level DJs that want more control over the tracks they play. Stems can be played as a regular audio file, or in Stem Decks in the Traktor Pro-2 program, where you can have access to 4 stems of the track. Usually, the stems consist of drums, bass, synths, and vocals / sfx. That way you can mute or solo each element at your hearts content. I needed to make STEM files for a sample pack that should be coming out shortly and released by non-other than Loopmasters! I figured, why not make a tutorial on the process for my community?! Get the Free Stem Creator software - stem-music.com/creator Basic Information about STEMS The Stem Creator first imports four elements of a track, each previously prepared as separate audio files in a DAW or wave editor, along with a stereo master of the whole track. Once imported, metadata like stem name, album title, and stem color can be edited. Then master compression and limiting can be applied to all stems for balanced playback. After compression and limiting is adjusted, the Stem Creator exports and packs the stems into a single stem.mp4 file. Currently, you can play with Stems using Native Instruments’ Traktor Pro 2 – the first DJ software supporting the Stems format. The Traktor Kontrol S4, S5, S8, D2, and F1 hardware controllers provide hands-on control of Traktor’s Stem Decks. And more Stems-ready software and hardware from other developers is expected. When Stem-supported software or hardware are not available to you, Stem files can also be played as regular stereo files with any standard mp4-compatible DJ application or media player. No special software or hardware required. With music being released as Stems from a growing list of labels, you’ll likely find what you’re looking for as Stem files.
