Constant doubt and fear has a huge impact on Recovery, period. That doesn’t mean you have to have 100% belief but the more sure you are the more straightforward getting better tends to be. I think what makes the entire process take so long is all the side quests we go on anytime we feel doubt. We often fall back into compulsive behaviors easily, and jump around to method after method. I know it’s hard to have hope and trust after feeling like so many things have failed you but I do think it’s critical in getting better.
