Noted classical artiste Priyanka Gope entertained Delhi audience with her magical voice at ICCR Auditorium of New Delhi on Saturday. The performance was a part of a three-day international classical music festival, which began on October 10, celebrating legendary classical maestro Begum Akhter’s birth centenary, which fell on October 7. The festival has been organised by Indian Council for Cultural Relations. Indian, Bangladeshi and Pakistani classical artistes participated in the festival. From Bangladesh, noted singer Anil Kumar Saha also performed on Sunday. Priyanka Gope, who left Dhaka to join the festival on October 10 and will return on October 15, presented thumri, tarana, kheyal and few gazal’s of Begum Akhter at the programme. ‘The performance was splendid because of the erudite audience and the cordial co-artistes,’ Priyanka Gope told New Age. Priyanka is a leading exponent of classical vocal music, who has been trained under maestros such as Ananda Chakrabarty, Dr Asit Roy, Wahidul Haque, Subir Nandy and others. She completed her MA from the department of music, Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. She is presently receiving training from Pandit Arun Bhaduri and Pandit Urmi Dasgupta. The gifted artiste has won several national and international awards such as Gold Medal in Nazrul Sangeet in the National Education Week, 2001.
