Best Via Ferrata in the Dolomites? Climbing Possnecker
This route throws you straight into a 700-meter vertical climb, with terrifying drops on each side. About 2 months ago we went to climb Piz Selva, a 2,941m mountain belonging to the Sella group, an iconic giant of the Dolomites. We started our hike from Passo Sella, and within minutes got to the start of our climb. Our chosen route was via Ferrata Possnecker (also called Ferrata delle Mesules), one of the oldest Via Ferratas in the Dolomites. Ferrata Possnecker is no joke, it's an exposed climb through many tight chimneys, hundreds of meters off the ground. It's a popular via Ferrata, and this popularity adds to it's difficulty, since a big portion of the rock is polished and hard to grip. Once we got to the top of Piz Selva we were treated with the desolate and dramatic landscape signature of the Dolomites. The grey mountains from the top of the Sella Massiff felt like they were merging with the stormy clouds above, creating a landscape that is hard not to love, making every meter of vertical gain to see this view worthwhile. In my opinion, Possnecker is one of the best Via Ferratas in the Dolomites. My links: ► / traintosummit ► / traintosummit
