ERRATA: At 0:58 of the video, damages estimated at €15 million are mentioned. The correct figure is €15 billion. This Thursday, December 26, marks the 20th anniversary of one of the deadliest natural disasters in modern history. In 2004, a magnitude 9.15 earthquake in the Indian Ocean triggered a tsunami with waves up to 17.4 meters high. More than a dozen countries in Asia, and even Africa, suffered devastation. The impact was enormous: more than 226,000 people died, nearly 2 million were left homeless, and entire communities disappeared in seconds. Indonesia was the hardest hit, with 166,000 dead or missing. In Banda Aceh, the city was rebuilt, but the scars of the disaster persist.
