On the morning of March 5, 2024, a tip led the Coastal Police Operation (OPLIT) team to a wooded area in the Guaxuma neighborhood of Maceió. Inside a discarded refrigerator in the undergrowth, police found the body of Flávia dos Santos Carneiro, 43 years old. What seemed like just a routine delivery revealed a crime that shocked the state of Alagoas. The investigation pointed to the involvement of the victim's own 13-year-old daughter, her boyfriend, Leandro dos Santos Araújo, and the accused's father. The case was handled by the Capital Homicide and Personal Protection Division and tried in the Jury Court in 2025. Leandro was sentenced to more than 31 years in prison for aggravated homicide (femicide) and concealment of a corpse. The father was acquitted out of clemency.
