This visit to the Yamagata factory in Japan gave me a new perspective on G-SHOCK's pursuit of "refinement." The new GMW-BZ5000 featured in the video is a technological marvel, the first to incorporate AI into its structural design. It pushes the layering of the metal block to new heights; the precise beauty of its stacked parts resembles an evolved work of mechanical art, with every bevel more refined and beautiful than ever before. In contrast, there's the MR-G "Phoenix," limited to 800 pieces worldwide. It goes to the other extreme, with a bezel texture hand-hammered by artisans, and unusually, inlaid with emeralds, perfectly integrating traditional Japanese craftsmanship into the hardcore titanium. While these two watches have vastly different souls, they both originated from the Yamagata factory's top-of-the-line PPL production line.
