A test of patience! Cleaning and repairs on a 1950’s blue lace wedding dress.

Donated to me by a follower, this lovely vintage blue lace wedding dress was in need of some TLC as it had many condition issues. It was a test of my patience but I am so glad I hung in there with it! Before I started, I knew that the lace would tear even more, that I would have to replace the sleeves and upper neckline, and that the fabric would soften up and possibly shrink a little. As projects often go, the project became more involved than expected but little by little I got through it. The dress still has condition issues with many holes remaining in the lace, ( I repaired the most egregious ones) there is a spot on the front center skirt, the horsehair braid on the hem is broken / worn and the hem edge is still discolored in areas. Despite these issues, the dress is clean and presentable again and I would love it if it could be worn one more time for a wedding- that would make it all worthwhile 💙 #vintageclothescleaning #vintageweddingdresscleaning #howto #50sstyle
