Catching Monster Bass in Summer Heat on a Fly Rod

A fly rod has been the most effective weapon for me at catching many 6-8 lb. bass in the Summer Heat of Central Florida. I was a fishing guide in Florida for over 20 years and a taxidermist to other guides and bass anglers for many years before becoming a fishing guide. So, I always had a finger on the pulse of the sport about what is getting caught “when”, “where” and “how”. Nothing has compared to the fly rod during the summer heat, and Dragonflies have been the #1 imitation. I should also add that some other fly rod offerings have produced much larger bass over 10 pounds more regular than dragonflies. Fly Rod FROGs and weighted Fly Rod Eels, for instance, but the dragonflies have much more finesse for fishing on the calm surfaces in the shallow, heated, summer waters in the daytime between rain showers and quiet, windless evenings.
