This declaration follows a weekend of escalating conflict, which saw the United States and Iran launching new strikes at each other after the collapse of last month's memorandum of understanding. Trump shared on Truth Social that the country will now be known as "the guardian of the Hormuz Strait" to ensure fairness through reimbursement. The proposal has drawn swift reaction and highlighted previous administration stances on international waterways. Secretary of State Marco Rubio previously blasted Iran for attempting to monetize the waterway, stating, "No country is allowed to charge tolls or fees on an international waterway."
