You’ve probably seen the massive Rato Machhindranath chariot being pulled in Patan, but did you know there’s a hidden part of the festival that happens in Kirtipur? It's all about the legend of "Yaaka Misa", the single woman of Kirtipur. Legend says she was the lover of the rain god, Machhindranath. Since he has to stay in Patan for his divine duties, he sends his main priest walking completely barefoot all the way to Kirtipur every single year to bring her sacred flowers. But that's not all! The priest also comes here to officially invite all the residents of Kirtipur to come down to Patan and join the grand festival. We captured this beautiful, emotional ritual on camera, and the atmosphere was amazing! This is a huge moment because the festival is reaching its climax. The chariot of Rato Machhindranath has been resting at Iti Tole for more than a month now. On the fourth day of this ritual, the chariot will finally be pulled from Iti Tole to Lagankhel. And just a couple of days later, on Jestha 6 (the 3rd day of the pull), the legendary Bhoto Jatra will happen there! After watching the invitation ritual, we spent the rest of our day exploring the beautiful old town of Kirtipur. It literally feels like stepping back in time with its narrow brick alleys and ancient temples. In this video, we visit: 📍 The Yaaka Misa Ritual: Seeing the barefoot priest arrive, the invitation to the locals, and the community celebration. 📍 Bagh Bhairav Temple: A famous temple dedicated to the Tiger God. If you look at the walls, you can see real old swords and shields hanging there from battles fought hundreds of years ago! 📍 Uma Maheshwar Temple: This sits at the very top of Kirtipur. The climb is a bit tiring, but once you get to the top, you get a stunning 360-degree view of the entire Kathmandu valley and the mountains. This is only Part 1 of our day!
