This is a piece of poetry written by former President Sukarno during his visit to Buya Hamka's birthplace. It wasn't just the beauty of Maninjau that captivated Sukarno, but also the depth of Buya Hamka's thought. A close relationship developed between Sukarno and Buya Hamka. However, at one point, the Panji Masyarakat magazine, led by Buya Hamka, was banned for publishing an article by Bung Hatta entitled "Our Democracy," which contained sharp criticism of Sukarno's guided democracy.
