KDHM Artifact Corner: Memoir of Hannah More, 18th Century Activist
Today we take a look at a memoir, published in 1834, of an 18th century activist. https://www.kentdelordhouse.org/ Hi everyone and welcome back to another artifact corner. Today we will be looking at a book that was published in 1834. This is the Memoir of Hannah More, written by William Roberts Esq. This book belonged to William Swetland, the second husband of Betsey Delord. When Betsey’s first husband, Henry Delord passed away in 1825, Betsey was left alone with her daughter. Four years after Henry’s passing, Betsey married the very prominent attorney William. William had lost his first wife in child birth, and was a single father to two daughters. Upon their marriage, William moved into our home, and by all accounts the blended family was very happy. The Delord’s and the Swetland’s were all avid readers, and books make up a large part of our collections. Let’s learn a bit more about Hannah More.
