Rather than translating the original poems directly, the project reconstructs their emotions, imagery, and human experiences into songs that resonate with modern listeners around the world. Through Hundred Hues - Echoes of Karuta -, we hope to share the timeless spirit of the Hyakunin Isshu beyond language and cultural boundaries. "The Name" is based on Poem No. 55 of the Hyakunin Isshu: "Taki no oto wa taete hisashiku narinuredo na koso nagarete nao kikoekere" In the original poem, Dainagon Kintō reflects on a famous waterfall whose sound has long since vanished, yet whose reputation continues to be heard and spoken of. This song reinterprets that idea through the enduring power of music. A song may stop playing. The performance may end. Years may pass and countless new songs may take its place. Yet some melodies never truly disappear. Sometimes all it takes is seeing a title, hearing a name, or recalling a single phrase for an entire piece of music to come rushing back into memory.
