Which Humanoid Robot is Ready for Real Work?
#Figure03 #Apptronik #Apollo2 #RobotPark #Helix02 #GeminiRobotics #GoogleDeepMind #HumanoidRobot #PhysicalAI Figure and Apptronik just revealed two very different strategies for building useful humanoid robots. Figure returned to BMW Group Plant Spartanburg with its new Figure 03 robot powered by Helix 02. In the demonstration, Figure 03 performed a logistics sequencing workflow: identifying irregularly positioned automotive parts, manipulating them, placing them into the correct sequence, and pulling a large cart. Figure says Helix 02 coordinates the robot’s hands, arms, torso, and feet for dynamic whole-body control. Apptronik revealed Apollo 2 and its expanded Robot Park facility in Austin, Texas. Apollo 2 is not being presented as the final commercial robot. Instead, it is a working data-collection and customer-testing platform designed to support Apollo 3, Apptronik’s planned next-generation commercial robot. In this video, we compare Figure 03 vs Apptronik Apollo 2 and break down which company currently looks stronger, which strategy may scale better, and what neither company has proven yet. You’ll learn: What Figure 03 demonstrated at BMW Spartanburg How Helix 02 connects vision, language, action, balance, and manipulation Why Figure’s vertically integrated system gives it a visible advantage What Apollo 2 is doing inside Apptronik’s Robot Park Why Apptronik uses both bipedal and wheeled robot configurations How teleoperation, autonomous execution, and simulation generate robot-training data How Google DeepMind’s Gemini Robotics research fits into Apollo’s future Why Apollo 3 may be the real commercial test for Apptronik What performance data is still missing from both companies BMW says Figure 02 previously supported the production of more than 30,000 BMW X3 vehicles over ten months by inserting sheet-metal parts into fixtures for welding. That gives Figure documented automotive experience before the new Figure 03 sequencing project. However, the Figure 03 project is still early and should not yet be treated as proof of full-scale industrial reliability. Apptronik’s Robot Park is a nearly 90,000-square-foot training facility where Apollo 2 robots perform logistics, manufacturing, retail, and other customer-driven tasks. The company says Apollo 2 fleets are active across Robot Park and customer or partner sites, including Google DeepMind, Mercedes-Benz, and GXO. The key difference is strategy. Figure is trying to prove that its current robot and in-house AI system can perform valuable factory work now. Apptronik is using Apollo 2 as a modular learning platform to collect the real-world data needed to make Apollo 3 smarter. Based on the evidence available today, Figure has the stronger visible position: an integrated robot, Helix AI, BotQ manufacturing claims, and documented BMW experience. Apptronik may be building for a later stage of the race through Robot Park, Gemini Robotics, simulation, teleoperation, and modular hardware. But neither company has released enough public data on uptime, task-success rates, human intervention, maintenance cost, safety incidents, or cost per completed task to prove a decisive commercial lead. Which strategy would you trust more: Figure’s tightly integrated robot and AI system, or Apptronik’s modular platform and Google DeepMind partnership?
