VolBiv Testwanderung mit Nordwind Soaring || Air Design Soar 2

For several weeks now, I've been trying to fly somewhere with my VolBiv gear, land on a mountain, spend the night there, and return to the car the next day. So far, it hasn't worked because the Elfer, my usual starting point, has been skipped every time, and I simply haven't been able to get high enough to even come close to my intended sleeping spot without a long hike. That's why I didn't mind this time; I simply factored in the hike with my gear and saw it as part of the adventure. I caught the last gondola up to the Kreuzjoch, knowing that the sun wouldn't set for a few more hours and that I'd easily have enough time to reach the Schlicker See below the Schlicker Seejoch. I could have potentially flown there from the Schlick area, but the risk of sinking again and missing what could be the last day to sleep on the mountain was too great. Up high, as so often this season, the wind is from the northwest, so there's at least hope of either gliding down to the lake or later soaring on the north side of the Kalkkögel mountains. My tent, sleeping bag, and sleeping mat replace the foam protector of the Weightless glider; the rest of my gear and food fit in the tail section. I can highly recommend this hike to everyone. It doesn't involve too much elevation gain and is easily manageable even with heavy gear. The view is definitely worth it; I find the Kalkkögel mountains simply stunning! After arriving at Schlicker See and realizing I definitely wouldn't be alone there that evening, I stocked up on some gear. After a quick dip in the water, I hiked the short distance up to the Schlicker Seejoch pass. As luck would have it, the wind was just right, and the thermals provided fantastic lift. After landing back at the lake in the lee of the higher mountains, I pitched my lightweight tent. Then I landed. And yes, I know that the Kalkkögel nature reserve, and actually all natural areas in Tyrol, are off-limits for wild camping, but I really did take all my trash with me, left no trace, and even used the toilet in the mudflats before going inside and then back home afterward.... After a rather chilly night, the next morning brought a nasty surprise. The predicted bad weather arrived earlier than expected, and the forecasted foehn wind apparently wasn't strong enough to keep the rain away completely. Just when I was about to give up, the tailwind briefly calmed down, and I managed to glide back to the car. Although I had to dry all my gear at home after this adventure, all in all it was quite fun, and I'm already looking forward to future VolBiv expeditions, which will hopefully take me a bit further afield.
