Evidence-Based Group Therapy: what do we know and where do we go from here?

Webinar by the Group Processes and Outcomes special interest group, on March 13th. Presented by Gary M. Burlingame and Bernhard Strauss. Abstract: In their recent edition of the book Theory and practice of Group psychotherapy I. Yalom and M. Leszcz describe group therapy as a “triple E treatment” with the “E´s” standing for effective, equivalent and efficient. This reflects a tremendous increase in studies showing the positive outcome of group therapy for a wide variety of psychological disorders. The webinar will summarize the evidence, especially related to several meta analyses. A recently developed website reflecting “evidence based group therapy” will be introduced. Additionally, we will provide current trends in group psychotherapy research and existing gaps that probably could be filled by members of the SIG on Group Processes and Outcomes.
