CARNAVAL CALANDA 2026

Outside, the wind was blowing so fiercely that Don Carnal (King Carnival) clung as best he could to the mast that stood guard over the bonfire, ready to be lit by the young men celebrating their 20th birthday (Quintos). Carnival was spent there, because this year, once again, the fire couldn't be lit due to the strong wind and the orange alert. The event had already been postponed previously due to rain, but the young people haven't given up hope of being able to light it one weekend. This Saturday, they took charge of the bar in the pavilion and also ran the bingo game. "With what we win, we'll have another party," they said. It's their year, after all, and although being a Quinto in Calanda means working at different events, there's time for everything. This Saturday, they served drinks to everyone who approached the bar seeking refuge from the infernal, cold air. Alongside them, the high school's Parents' Association provided snacks of fruit, juice, and some sweets, especially for the younger children. The Carnival evening in Calanda was enjoyed by young and old alike in a competition held in the pavilion after the parade and bonfire were cancelled. Such a display of ingenuity and meticulously crafted costumes took to the stage that the judges had a very difficult task. Among the children's entries were farms, paper cutouts, the 2014 Olympic Games, and even a Calanda-style recreation of Beverly Hills. The adults delighted the crowd with a performance of 'Beauty and the Beast,' complete with Tony's Bar, and even a group of Priscilla Queen of the Desert dancers performing together. The children's group sang a song written for the occasion, which they closed with a more techno-infused version of the Calanda anthem. The grand finale was provided by the young men celebrating their 20th birthday (Quintos), who performed a Sevillanas dance to match their costumes, finishing with Manolo Escobar's 'Y Viva España'. 🌐 Full story: https://www.lacomarca.net/infanticos-... 👍🔔 Like and subscribe here: https://bit.ly/3gCqV33 📲 Follow us on social media! https://linktr.ee/lacomarca_news
