“Red-flag state image caused lot of damage”, West Bengal Finance Minister on state Budget

On the state's budget presented today, West Bengal Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta says, "Our initial objective was that West Bengal had separated from the Indian government for so long. So, no one knew what the Indian government's schemes were or weren't. So, we had to tell people about the schemes and that you can benefit from these schemes. So, that was one thing. Second, our objective was that many people across Bengal had problems. So, we tried to address all those problems. And finally, there was a confidence-building measure: that we need to create an environment where we're pro-business. So, the image of this red-flag state has caused a lot of damage. So, there's an effort underway to scrap policies like urban land ceilings... All of this will have to be done one by one.
