Peugeot 508 HYbrid4 2012. Hybrid diesel, does this concept make sense? Full review

We are reviewing a model produced by another French manufacturer, namely the mid-size sedan 508 of the Peugeot brand. The car is in HYbrid4 configuration, that is, it is equipped with a 2-liter diesel engine, which drives the front axle of the car, and an electric motor, which propels the vehicle on the rear axle. A slightly unique configuration among hybrids, paired with a transmission, also unique, more precisely a robotized manual gearbox. Depending on the chosen driving mode, the vehicle can run: in hybrid mode, when it alternates or combines the diesel engine on the front axle with the electric motor on the rear; fully electric, thus being rear-wheel drive; in sport mode, when both the diesel engine and the electric motor are used for movement, but also permanently charges the battery, using the diesel engine as an electric current generator; in all-wheel drive mode, a situation in which both the diesel engine and the electric motor are used for movement again.
