This video analyzes how design decisions, construction standardization, and material choices have transformed the school space into an environment that hinders learning, makes teachers sick, and intensifies conflicts. Based on a materialist reading of the history of school architecture in Brazil, the video shows how the school building ceased to be a pedagogical space and became a device of control. From republican monumentalism to industrial standardization in prefabricated concrete, the public school began to reproduce the logic of the factory and the prison, prioritizing cost-cutting, surveillance, and containment at the expense of environmental comfort and human health. Recurring technical errors in Brazilian schools are analyzed, such as acoustic negligence, excessive reflective surfaces, systematic violation of NBR 10152 (Brazilian standard), chronic classroom noise and its direct impacts on speech intelligibility and the vocal health of teachers. The video also addresses the thermal discomfort caused by uninsulated fiber cement roofing tiles, inadequate solar orientation, blocked cross-ventilation, and excessive use of exposed concrete in a country with a tropical climate. Based on studies in neuroarchitecture, the content explains how noisy, hot, poorly lit, and visually hostile environments increase stress, impair attention, affect the circadian rhythm, and reduce the cognitive capacity of children and adolescents. The so-called "prison-school" is not just a social metaphor, but an architectural typology with measurable effects on behavior and school performance. The video also presents technical and viable paths for transforming these spaces, focusing on low-cost acoustic and bioclimatic retrofitting, the use of absorbent materials, improved natural ventilation, passive thermal comfort strategies, biophilic design, and energy efficiency. School architecture is treated here as learning infrastructure, public health, and educational policy. This content is aimed at educators, architects, public administrators, students, and anyone interested in understanding why the physical form of Brazilian schools works against education—and how it can be corrected with technical criteria, sustainability, and respect for human biology.
