But the Jetta has a few tricks up its sleeve to set is apart from the rest of the pack. First, Volkswagen is the only non-luxury German automobile manufacturer. This means you can expect a high level of quality and luxury in each vehicle Volkswagen produces. Second, the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta has a very low base price at $15,515 making is one of the least expensive vehicles in the compact sedan segment. Finally, the Volkswagen Jetta is produced right here in the Good Old U.S.A. at a plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee. This is great for those looking to buy automobiles that support jobs in America. There are more than 50 different trim levels on the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta. These include variations on engines, feature packages, and body style (sedan or wagon). The very base model starts at $15,515 with the SEL seen here starting at $23,445. The top of the line model is the TDI Wagon with sunroof and navigation going for $29,220. The engine choices are plentiful with 4 different engines being offered on the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta. The first engine is the most basic. This 2.0 liter 4-cylinder has 115 horsepower and 125 lb-ft. or torque while getting 24 MPG in the city and 34 MPG on the highway. The next engine up is the 2.5 liter 5-cylinder making 170 horsepower and 177 lb-ft. of torque while getting 23 MPG in the city and 33 MPG on the highway. The next step up is the turbocharged 2.0 liter 4-cylinder found on many Volkswagen vehicles. This little engine is found on the GLI trim and puts out 200 horsepower and 207 lb-ft. of torque while averaging 22 MPG in the city and 33 MPG on the highway. The last engine is the venerable TDI which is a turbocharged and direct injected diesel engine. This 2.0 liter 4-cylinder engine makes 140 horsepower and a huge 236 lb-ft. of torque while returning 30 MPG in the city and 42 MPG on the highway. All of these fuel economy figures are with the 6-speed manual transmission installed. With the Automatic transmission the figures drop just a bit. The 2012 Volkswagen Jetta has a ton of usable interior space. In fact the Jetta seems more like a mid-size than a compact sedan. There is over 3 feet of rear legroom which according to VW is more than most large sedans. And with the Wagon model you can get 67 cubic feet of cargo space. There is an optional seating surface called V-Tex leatherette which looks and feel like leather but cost much less. The Jetta SEL comes standard with heated front seats as well. Since the SEL is one of the more expensive trims it does come loaded with lots of great technology. There sound system is a 400 watt Fender Stereo with a subwoofer and 8 speakers. A touch screen navigation system is also standard on the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta SEL. The Jetta is available in many different trims and configurations so that there will be a model to suit you.
