These 100-Year-Old Fort Worth Grain Silos Are About to Disappear

Today we're taking a look at the massive abandoned grain elevators located at 3700 Alice Street in the Worth Heights neighborhood of Fort Worth, Texas. These huge concrete silos were built in the 1920s by the Fort Worth Elevator and Warehouse Company when Fort Worth was becoming a major grain shipping hub for farms across North Texas and the Great Plains. For decades, trains moved wheat and corn through this facility, storing thousands of bushels of grain inside the giant concrete towers. But as the industry modernized, the elevators eventually shut down and the property was abandoned. Over the years the site became known for graffiti, trespassing, fires, and safety concerns. After decades of sitting empty, the city has now declared the structures hazardous and they are scheduled for demolition. In this video I’m sharing the history of these nearly 100-year-old grain silos and showing what they look like today before they disappear from the Worth Heights skyline.
