All you need are 3 colors. I used Americolor food gels: lemon yellow, chocolate brown, and tan. I also used metallic gold lustre dust. The royal icing consistency for the petals was stiff. A good rule is to make it about the consistency of mashed potatoes with peaks, or stiff toothpaste. It's not a hard rule on the brown center, since it will be crinkled. However, ensure it's stiff yet spreadable to prevent color bleed into the yellow. The lighter brown, tan color had a consistency of about 14 seconds.
