turn your photos into vintage-style art prints using this gel plate technique
No paintbrush required for this beginner-friendly art technique. All you need is a photo from your phone and the supplies below to make art prints at home. Art supplies you will need for this project: A photo printed on a glossy sheet of paper Liquitex acrylic paint (this is the paint I used in the video: https://amzn.to/4euX1Lr) A page from an old book A gel press to fit your print size (this is the one I used in the video: https://amzn.to/4vjSSRK) A brayer (this is the one I use in the video: https://amzn.to/49WiUBS} A dish and a spatula to mix paint A used paper bag to clean off the brayer when you print In this gel print acrylic image transfer tutorial, I share everything I have learned about the process and show you every step I took to create my latest print. This is an easy art technique for someone with no art skills to learn. And at the end, you get a timeless art print that is more creative than just printing out a photo and hanging it on your wall. There are so many tutorials out there, including the ones I learned this technique from. Even then, it took me about a year to really refine my own unique practice. And this particular aesthetic is both forgiving and easy to achieve, so I think it's the perfect way to get a beginner to try it. Every tutorial stresses its own unique points, and for me, that's the sustainable materials aspect. It’s affordable and adaptable, and it gives you creative constraints that can lead to truly unique art prints. Using an old book page also adds a whimsical element to the process. Every page is an art prompt, and in this tutorial, you can see me bring a creative idea to life on the page. My goal is to achieve an antique aesthetic that is still bright and fresh by combining green and gray with matte acrylic medium. After giving away a lot of prints, I have come to realize that this color scheme can fit into any home decor style and evokes the aesthetic of an old photo. The only technique required is mixing and rolling acrylic paint on the gel press. Since I filmed every step for this tutorial, I can tell you that the entire process only took me 15 minutes of focused work, between letting each layer dry. You can do it in a small workspace with limited supplies. The supplies don't cost that much when you print on sustainable materials because you're just buying a gel press, which you can print on for years. At the end of this tutorial, you will be able to make these prints yourself and give them your own spin. Whether with different materials or colors, I wanted to provide a springboard for your creativity. This is also a really sweet way to remember a vacation or time with your family. I learned a lot about this process, making prints for friends and family.
