Joe Bradley Vom Abend at DAVID ZWIRNER

James Kalm has been aware of the work of Joe Bradley since being “busted” and booted out of the Whitney Biennial exhibition, for daring to make a video recording of his work in 2008. Since then, the “art world” or at least some of its institutional realms have begun to catch up with your correspondent’s practice, and now allow video (seeing as how everyone has a video camera in their iPhone they’ve got little chose). In the meantime, Kalm has kept an eye out for opportunities to bring viewers along to check out Bradly’s latest work. “Vom Abend” is the artist’s first exhibition with the David Zwirner Gallery and presents major scaled works in the artist’s current style. These pictures are richly colored, and intensely worked with quadrants of pure colors overlayed with suggestive drawings that echo Brice Marden, yet remain ambiguously playful.
