She opens fire first at ~42,000 yards — 1,500 yards before Lion can reply — and her deck and belt armour absorb incoming fire far more effectively. At every range band, Iowa's protection advantage accumulates. Lion's secondary battery outranges Iowa's by 5,500 yards, but there is no scenario in which that alone reverses the structural advantage Iowa holds.
