Tests for Breast Lump स्तनात गाठ असल्यास डॉक्टर अनेकदा काही टेस्ट्स सुचवतात. पण या टेस्ट्सचा उद्देश काय असतो? तर, ही गाठ cancerous आहे की non-cancerous हे ओळखणं. सर्वात पहिले टेस्ट म्हणजे clinical breast examination – डॉक्टर स्वतः हाताने तपासतात. पुढचं स्टेप म्हणजे imaging tests – जसं की sonography (ultrasound) आणि mammography. Sonography: ही टेस्ट तरुण महिलांमध्ये वापरली जात. कारण त्यांचा breast tissue dense असतो, आणि ultrasound नी चांगलं दिसतं. Mammography: ही टेस्ट वयस्क महिलांमध्ये वापरली जाते. यात X-ray वापरून बारीक बारीक lumps सुद्धा शोधता येतात. Pathology Tests Imaging नंतर डॉक्टर जर काही शंकेचा भाग पाहिलात, तर पुढची स्टेप असते pathology test. Pathology म्हणजे त्या tissues किंवा cells चं microscopic level वर analysis करणं. यासाठी गाठीमधून थोडं sample काढलं जातं – आणि हे sample lab मध्ये पाठवलं जातं. तिथे pathologist त्या sample चं सूक्ष्मपणे निरीक्षण करतात. यात लक्षात येतं – cells कसे वागत आहेत? atypical आहेत का? कॅन्सरस आहेत का? Biopsy Explained Biopsy ही एक प्रकारची pathology test आहे – पण थोडं advance. Biopsy मध्ये doctor एक छोटा सुई (core needle) वापरून गाठीचं tissue काढतात. हा tissue lab मध्ये जाऊन त्याचं microscopic analysis केलं जातं.
