Why Being Bored Might Mean You're Succeeding
๐ My new book, *Mastering the Middle*, is now available on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0GZW979F4?... In a world obsessed with productivity, optimization, and constant stimulation, boredom has become one of the most feared emotions. But what if boredom isn't a problem to solve? What if boredom is actually a sign that you're growing? In this video, I explore my complicated relationship with boredom and why I have spent years trying to avoid it. Like many ambitious people, I have always felt the need to optimize every area of my life. If I wasn't making progress, learning something new, working toward a goal, or improving myself in some way, I felt uncomfortable. Sometimes that discomfort showed up as boredom. Other times it felt more like loneliness, restlessness, or the feeling that I was somehow falling behind. Over time, I started asking myself a different question: Why am I so afraid of being bored? The answer surprised me. I began to realize that boredom may not always be a sign that something is wrong. Sometimes boredom is a sign that something is right. When we repeat a habit consistently enough, it eventually stops feeling exciting. The novelty wears off. The activity becomes familiar. It becomes part of who we are. As someone who writes every day and has published multiple books, I've noticed that writing doesn't always feel exciting anymore. Sometimes it feels ordinary. Sometimes it even feels boring. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, it may be evidence that I've fully integrated the identity of being a writer. The same thing happens with exercise, meditation, healthy eating, personal development, entrepreneurship, and almost every worthwhile habit. At first, the habit feels exciting because it's new. Later, it feels normal because it has become part of your identity. In this video, we discuss: โ Why boredom feels so uncomfortable โ The surprising connection between boredom and loneliness โ How productivity culture teaches us to fear stillness โ Why constant optimization can become exhausting โ What meditation taught me about presence โ How habits become part of your identity โ Why boredom may be a sign of progress โ The psychology of identity transformation โ How to stop chasing novelty and start embracing consistency โ Why being bored doesn't mean you're failing If you've ever felt guilty for slowing down, struggled with restlessness, or wondered why your goals don't feel exciting anymore, this conversation is for you. Sometimes the goal isn't to eliminate boredom. Sometimes the goal is to listen to what boredom is trying to teach you. Because the very thing you're trying to escape might actually be evidence that you're becoming the person you wanted to be all along.
