SAPINHO NA BOCA DO BEBÊ: O QUE É E COMO TRATAR | MACETES DE MÃE
In today's video, at the request of dear Lucivania Ribeiro, I'll talk about thrush in babies' mouths and answer the most common questions about it. What is thrush? It's an infection caused by a fungus called Candida albicans, the same fungus that causes candidiasis, and its scientific name is Moniliasis. Where does thrush appear? It can appear in the mouth—tongue, gums, inner cheeks, and lips—or even in the perineal region, which is the area covered by the diaper. What does it look like? Visually, in the mouth area, thrush looks like milk residue that won't come out. On the genitals and bottom, the perineum, it usually appears as small reddish bumps. What are the causes? Our bodies have several fungi and bacteria that, under normal conditions, don't cause any harm. However, due to low resistance, Candida albicans, a fungus, multiplies and eventually develops into thrush. Because this fungus likes moist places, it often appears on improperly sanitized bottle nipples or pacifiers, and then, upon contact with the mouth, the problem arises. At what age does thrush most often occur? As long as a child uses bottles and pacifiers, there is a risk of infection. However, younger babies (in their first months of life) are more susceptible because their immune systems are not yet fully developed. Furthermore, little ones have a habit of putting everything in their mouths, a risk when it comes to thrush. How to prevent it? By sanitizing everything that goes into the baby's mouth. Sterilizing bottles and pacifiers by boiling or using microwave sterilizers. And by keeping toys and other objects that the baby usually puts in the mouth clean. What is the treatment? First of all, the advice is: see a pediatrician. They can recommend appropriate antifungal medication. It's worth noting that treatment can be lengthy, lasting several months. It's also crucial not to scrape, pick, or move the infected area, as this will only worsen the problem. Breastfeeding women should pay attention to any burning sensation in the nipple area. This is because the baby can transmit the disease to the mother. It's not uncommon for a child to be treated but develop thrush again because the mother's breast remains infected.
