My Brother's Keeper Model Community: Omaha, Nebraska

Omaha, Nebraska was named one of four My Brother's Keeper Model Communities, a new initiative that seeks to expand the implementation of evidence-based practices and impact for communities across the country. Omaha was recognized for their demonstrated impact in MBK Milestone Six: Remaining Safe from Violent Crime, where city-wide homicides were reduced by 30 percent from 2011 to 2022. "We have learned from our young men looking to stay out of the gang life that they wanted employment, so MBK connects young men with career exploration, internships and entrepreneurship," shared Willie Barney, CEO and founder of The Empowerment Network.
