New NISSAN GT-R R36

The next-generation Nissan GT-R will retain its legendary twin-turbo V6 and gain a hybrid heart — and I’m not joking. That’s exactly what Nissan North America’s Senior Vice President, Ponz Pandikuthira, revealed at the New York Auto Show, offering a glimpse into the future of the GT-R R36. According to him, the new GT-R will ride on an entirely new platform and be developed “from a clean sheet.” However, the biggest news lies elsewhere: the iconic 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 from the VR38 family isn’t going anywhere. Instead, it will be heavily modernized and paired with an electrified powertrain to meet modern regulations. Nissan believes that a contemporary hybrid architecture will unlock truly exciting possibilities for the R36.
