After their five-year-old daughter, Mei, dies in an accident, Kae Suzuki and her husband, a nurse named Tadahiko, find a charming doll resembling Mei at an antiques market, purchase it, and begin showering her with love as if it were their own child, which helps to restore their strength. However, when Kae and Tadahiko have a new daughter, Mai, the couple no longer pay any attention to the doll. Eventually, when Mai, now five years old, begins playing with the doll, strange events begin to occur one after another in the family. They try to get rid of the doll, but it keeps returning, even after being thrown away or offered for memorial services.
