Report by Serambi Indonesia Journalist Indra Wijaya | Banda Aceh SERAMBINEWS.COM, BANDA ACEH – Crowds flocked to watch the Islamic propagation parade to celebrate the Islamic New Year, 1 Muharram 1448 Hijri, held at Blang Padang Field, Banda Aceh, Tuesday (June 16, 2026). Daswati, a resident who attended the parade, said she hoped the commemoration would increase piety towards Allah SWT. She believed the parade served as a reminder. If the event were not held, she feared the community would forget the teachings of Islam itself. Daswati, a teacher at SMPN 3 Banda Aceh, urged the government to continue improving Islamic propagation education, especially for students. She considered the activity positive and should not be forgotten. She also believes that the activity serves as a platform for students to develop their creativity and foster their devotion to Allah SWT. Religious activities are crucial for students. They learn not only about worldly matters but also about the afterlife. Daswati hopes that the government will not only hold parades annually. As an educator, she feels saddened when Islamic activities in schools are curtailed. She cited the example of the Qurbani (sacrificial offering) in schools, which is no longer permitted. She believes that Qurbani aims to encourage students to make sacrifices and teach them not to pursue worldly pursuits alone.
