The Bible contains many verses that speak about adultery and fornication. Adultery is defined as sexual intercourse between a married person and someone other than their spouse, and fornication is defined as sexual intercourse between two people who are not married. In the book of Exodus, God says, "You shall not commit adultery." In the book of Leviticus, God says, "If anyone commits adultery with another man's wife—his neighbor's wife—both the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death." In the letter to the Corinthians, Paul says, "Flee from fornication. For all other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins through sexual intercourse sins against his own body." In the letter to the Galatians, Paul says, "The works of the flesh are obvious: fornication, impurity, and lasciviousness; idolatry and witchcraft; "hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, discord, strife, and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like."
