Talleres del FERROCARRIL -AFE- en Barrio Peñarol
Visit and historical overview of the facilities of the Old Railway Workshops in the Peñarol neighborhood, originally belonging to the Central Uruguay Railway (CUR) and later to the State Railways Administration (AFE). Due to the decline in the importance of the railway for freight and passenger transport in recent decades, much of this facility is now disused and forgotten. However, some areas are still operational and functioning as railway workshops. We also visited and learned about the work of the Uruguayan Railway Studies Circle (CEFU), which has been loaned several locomotives and railcars from different historical periods by AFE. CEFU conserves and restores these locomotives and railcars for heritage activities and outreach.
