W.A.S.P local news feature before Nottingham gig - 25th September 1984
Controversy followed the Los Angeles metal band W.A.S.P everywhere they played in the early 1980s. In September 1984, following the release of their debut album, they came to the UK for the very first time and some local authorities and churches tried to get their shows banned. Here's a rare clip from Central News in the East Midlands of singer Blackie Lawless being interviewed on the day of their gig at the Nottingham Palais, 25th September 1984. I was there in the 'pit' that night and still have the bird feathers that Blackie shook over the audience - sticking to our sweaty faces and making us all look like ready to pluck chickens! A great night that will live long in the memory... Loads more great gig memories over on my website Music In the Attic (link in bio) and on all my social media channels. Please pay us a visit and join in! :)
