Chelsea-Leeds rivalry: 'I found out Bremner had put nails in his studs after he trod on my hand'

Johnny Boyle joins his former Chelsea team-mate Alan Hudson and sports journalist Tony Jimenez to reveal the origins of the long-standing rivalry with Leeds United. John recalls the moment he discovered firebrand Leeds skipper Billy Bremner had three nails in his stud when he trod on and bloodied his hand. He also remembers the time he saw stars after Leeds goalkeeper Gary Sprake kung-fu kicked him in the face. John believes the rivalry between the two clubs stems from the early Sixties, when Chelsea were promoted from Division Two in 1963 and Leeds did likewise in 1964. Don Revie's side were branded 'Dirty Leeds' by opposing fans but, according to Boyle and Hudson, Chelsea always refused to take a backward step and it led to some stirring victories over a team that was generally regarded as the best in the country in that era.
