A human trafficking case has once again shocked Argentina. The investigation, launched in November 2023 by prosecutor Cecilia Corfield in La Plata, led to the dismantling of a criminal organization that recruited vulnerable women with false promises of employment, inflicted debt on them through photo books, and then sexually exploited them. Among those arrested are three women—one of them the mother of a media personality—and a man operating out of La Pampa. The modus operandi replicates old practices: extortionate debts, threats to families, withholding documents, constant phone number changes, and absolute control of the victims, who barely received 10% of what the network earned. In total, 15 women were rescued.
