Noisy? Leaking? Not Spinning? Replace the Gearcase on your Washer Whirlpool Maytag Amana Kenmore
Is your Whirlpool, Maytag, or Amana washer noisy while spinning, leaking fluid, or not spinning? A faulty gearcase (also called a transmission) could be the reason. The most common cause of a noisy washer on the spin cycle is bad bearings inside the gearcase. The gearcase is a vital part that transfers power from the drive motor to the spin basket and agitator washplate, and when it breaks, your washing machine could stop agitating, stop spinning, or leak. Most commonly the bearings in the gearcase fail causing the washer to spin loudly, leak water and grease from the bottom, and get out of balance during the spin cycle. If you have already replace the suspension rods and the washer is still getting out of balance during the spin cycle, the bearings in your gearcase could be the culprit. Another failure of the gearcase is corrosion and wear of the splines on the driveshaft. If your agitator or washplate has been replaced and it continues to strip out, the driveshaft on your gearcase could be worn or corrode and not fitting at tightly as it was when it was new. This video will show you how to replace the gearcase on your Whirlpool Maytag Amana washer. We'll walk you through the steps of diagnosing a broken gearcase, replacing it yourself, and getting your washer back in top spinning condition.
