Through forums, imageboards, and the internet in general, an entire subculture of young people obsessed with horror in all its forms was born: from philosophical and Lovecraftian horror, through the most bloody and visceral gore of slasher films, to the unsettling supernatural terror of movies like The Ring or The Blair Witch Project. This coalescence of thousands of minds sharing theories, images, and stories gave rise to one of the most important phenomena of the early internet: creepypastas.
