In a 20-year career Ewan McGregor has established himself as one of cinema's most versatile actors, as at home in independent film as he is in big budget studio fare. His star-making turn in Dennis Potter's series Lipstick on Your Collar in the early '90s led to celebrated performances in Shallow Grave, Trainspotting, and Moulin Rouge as well as blockbuster success in the Star Wars prequels. For his feature directorial debut, McGregor tasked himself with not just directing an adaptation of Philip Roth's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel American Pastoral, but taking on the lead role too. McGregor discusses this ambitious debut, his career and his goals as a director.
