The Dollhouse Journals Series: Miniature Memories & Dollhouse Culture

In this episode of my dollhouse-inspired junk journal series, I work on a simple but satisfying task — gluing lace to the page edges of the journals — while talking about postwar dollhouse culture, miniature worlds, and some of my own childhood fascination with tiny objects and imagined spaces. Sometimes the quieter stages of a project create the best opportunity for reflection, memory, and conversation. This series follows the transformation of three vintage children’s books into miniature-inspired journals: Sandman’s Stories of Drusilla Doll (1920) My Dolly and Me (1960) The Doll House (1961) Topics discussed in this video include: mid-century dollhouse culture childhood fascination with miniatures tiny worlds and nostalgia vintage children’s books handmade journals lace and textile details altered books miniature aesthetics memory and collecting Referenced in this video: 📚 My tutorial for making simple book weights from washers and scrap fabric: Book Weight Tutorial Video 📻 CBC Radio — Under the Influence with Terry O’Reilly Episodes discussed: “Debut Commercials Part 1” (May 7, 2026) “Debut Commercials Part 2” (May 14, 2026) CBC Under the Influence with Terry O’Reilly 🏰 Video tour of Queen Mary's Dolls' House: Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House Tour (Part One) If you love: miniatures, dollhouses, junk journals, altered books, vintage paper, handmade journals, nostalgic crafts, and tiny carefully made objects — welcome. #junkjournal #miniatures #dollhouse #alteredbook #vintagebooks #papercraft #miniatureworlds #nostalgia #handmadejournal #ephemera #slowcraft #lacecraft
