Aron Ra DISMANTLES Christian Apologist's Claim That the Bible Condemns Slavery

In this video, we are reacting to a heated exchange between Aron Ra and Converse Contender over one of the most debated questions in biblical scholarship: does the Bible condemn slavery or does it endorse it? This discussion gets intense as both sides go back and forth on what the text actually says, what scholars have argued for centuries, and whether the Bible can truly be called a moral guide on the issue of human ownership. The debate begins with a simple question. Is there a single verse in the Bible that outright condemns slavery? Converse Contender attempts to make the case that Leviticus chapter 25 represents a form of progressive legislation in the ancient world, arguing that it abolished slavery for citizens of Israel and that what remained was closer to household adoption than what we think of as traditional slavery. He references scholarship on ancient Near Eastern law codes and argues that this passage was groundbreaking compared to anything else written at that time. He also brings up the writings of Dr. McGregor on Molinism and possible world semantics to explain why God may have permitted slavery within the framework of the best feasible world. Aron Ra pushes back hard on every single one of these points. He argues that even if Leviticus 25 restricted who could own slaves among Israelite citizens, it left the institution completely intact and gave explicit permission for foreigners to be purchased and kept as permanent property. He makes the case that restricting ownership to certain people is not the same as condemning the practice, and that a truly moral God would have simply said slavery is wrong. He presses Converse Contender with a direct yes or no question: would the world have been better if the Bible had prohibited slavery instead of permitting it? What makes this exchange so compelling is the way Converse Contender struggles to answer that question. He repeatedly says they are disagreeing on the data and attempts to redirect the conversation toward topics like cobalt mining, lithium batteries, and the ethics of modern consumer electronics. Aron Ra refuses to let the conversation shift and delivers one of the sharpest lines in the entire debate when he says that what he personally does has nothing to do with what the Bible does, and that the Bible knowingly supports slavery. The distinction between accidentally participating in an unethical supply chain and a divine text explicitly permitting human ownership becomes the central turning point of the exchange. There is also a moment where Converse Contender confuses his own biblical references, mixing up Exodus 21 with Leviticus 25, and has to be corrected on camera. This is significant because much of his argument relies on the idea that his opponent is reading these passages out of context and without proper scholarly understanding. By the end of the discussion, Converse Contender finally concedes that the world would indeed have been better if the Bible had prohibited slavery, which effectively undermines the position he spent the entire segment defending. This video covers topics including biblical slavery, the morality of the Old Testament, Leviticus 25, the ethics of ancient law codes, the tu quoque fallacy in debate, Molinism, and the historical use of scripture to justify the slave trade. Whether you agree with the atheist perspective or the Christian perspective, this is a conversation worth watching and thinking about carefully. Let us know in the comments what you think. Do you believe the Bible condemns slavery through progressive revelation, or do you think it explicitly permits and endorses it?
