One Simple Shadow Trick | Urban Sketching Tutorial (6 min)

Most beginners are too focused on all the DETAILS, this "trick" will help a beginner sketcher to see the BIG PICTURE, especially SHADOWS. ***************************** Process: 1) Simple sketch in pen - I use a broad size fountain pen with permanent / bulletproof ink. 2) I worry about the BIG shapes, not the tiny details. 3) Whenever I put in details it is to INDICATE architectural details. 4) Key SHADOWS are marked in first - using neutral purple - combination of French Ultramarine, Perm Alizarin Crimson and Quin Burnt Orange. 5) The rest of the colours are just EMBELLISHMENT! Materials: 1) Coldpress A5 sketchbook. 2) Daniel Smith watercolors - French Ultramarine, Perm Alizarin Crimson, Quin Gold, Quin Burnt Orange, Cad Yellow, Cad Orange, Green Gold, Phthalo Green (BS). 3) Brushes - tiny no.1, 100, 4 and 6 sized brushes ***************************** Painting should be fun and relaxing and not stressful, there's no objective other than learning and having a relaxing time.
