Sejarah Masjid Husnul Khatimah Kotabaru, Tangis Haru Warnai Terwujudnya Impian Masyarakat Saijaan
BANJARMASINPOST.CO.ID, KOTABARU - The Husnul Khatimah Grand Mosque is located on Jalan Suryagandamana, Sebatung Village, Pulau Laut Utara District, Kotabaru Regency, South Kalimantan Province. Established on April 5, 1987, this 2,350-square-meter mosque in the center of Kotabaru has a capacity of 3,000 worshippers. A long history informs the mosque's construction, which is strongly influenced by the "Pancasila Mosque" architecture, with its distinctive three-tiered dome, a hallmark of typical Indonesian mosques of the past. Built by the Pancasila Muslim Charity Foundation, Kotabaru had a population of approximately 300,000, comprising various ethnic groups, including Banjar, Bugis, Javanese, Bajau, Mandar, Madurese, and Chinese. Around 90 percent of the Muslim community hoped for a grand mosque that would be a source of pride and a hallmark of the Muslim community in Kotabaru Regency. Although the Baitul Abrar Mosque on Jalan Agus Salim was quite large at the time, further development could not be carried out due to limited land. The initiative to build the mosque itself began on February 7, 1985, several months before Regent N Sotejo's term ended. After the Regent's term was handed over to Regent H MR Husein, he continued the initiative initiated by the previous regent. To ensure the smooth and responsible implementation of the development plan, a development committee was formed on August 26, 1985. Based on this decree, the committee began work, primarily addressing fundamental issues that needed to be resolved as quickly as possible, such as land status, fundraising, building design, permitting, and other matters. At the first meeting on September 26, 1985, it was decided to raise funds for the construction of the Grand Mosque through various means, including: Distributing envelopes, waqf tickets, gold books to local officials and businesspeople, making stickers, calendars, and inviting preachers and Habaibs to attend religious outreach events and auctions to raise funds. This fundraising effort lasted several months, but the results fell short of the planned Rp 198,750,500, approximately 40 percent of the Rp 550,000,000 required in the budget. On July 18, 1986, a proposal for financial assistance was submitted to the President of the Republic of Indonesia to the Pancasila Muslim Charity Foundation. The President granted the construction committee's request, with a disbursement of Rp 225,000,000. The funds were available, but another challenge was procurement, leading to approval for construction at the Sebatung soccer field on Suryagandamana Street in the city center. From that moment on, the Sebatung soccer field was moved to Semayap, now known as the Bamega Sports Hall. The first stone was laid by the then-Governor of South Kalimantan, H.M. Said, on April 5, 1987, measuring 50 x 47 square meters. After approximately one year, construction of the Kotabaru Grand Mosque was 75% complete, and the community began to enthusiastically participate in breaking the fast, Eid al-Fitr prayers, and Friday prayers. In short, by the second week of October 1989, all construction work on the Kotabaru Grand Mosque was completed. The organizing committee planned to hold an inauguration ceremony on November 1, 1989. The committee then disseminated this information to residents using mobile loudspeakers to ensure the good news was known to all levels of society. The inauguration was marked by the signing of an inscription by the Minister of Education and Culture, Prof. Dr. Fuad Hasan, followed by the unveiling of the mosque's nameplate, accompanied by the recitation of the Adhan (call to prayer), which moved many guests to tears. The event then continued with the opening of the mosque's key by Governor H.M. Said, followed by a tour of the mosque's interior, attended by all attendees. This historic day also attracted attention, even being covered live by national media outlet TVRI.
