Madlanga Commission | Tumelo Nku: The "Informer" Who Was Arrested | Aeroton R300m Cocaine Bust
Tumelo Nku, the man at the centre of South Africa's R300 million Aeroton cocaine bust, gave explosive testimony at the Madlanga Commission. Nku claims he was a confidential source who tipped off police about a truck transporting 700+ kilograms of cocaine from Durban to Johannesburg in July 2021. But instead of being treated as a whistleblower, he was arrested at the scene alongside the officers he had informed. Key moments from his testimony: "I am not a tenderpreneur." — Nku rejects claims he was part of a drug trafficking network . "I was not a paid informer." — He insists he operated as a confidential source, not a formal police informant . "I have consulted with foreign intelligence entities." — Nku reveals he has worked with intelligence agencies outside South Africa . "I received the information from a gentleman." — He describes how he obtained intelligence about the consignment, but invokes his right against self-incrimination when asked for details . "General Feroz Khan ordered my arrest." — Nku alleges that after identifying himself as the source, Khan instructed for him to be arrested and his phones seized . "I am not insinuating that I have a formal relationship with any law enforcement agencies." — He denies having a formal working relationship with SAPS . The Commission also grilled Nku on the R65,000 in cash found in his car: Justice Madlanga: "What stopped you from taking the money out of the safe, giving it to somebody to go and deposit it?" Nku: "Nothing stopped me, Chair." Witness J (Hawks analyst) contradicted Nku's version entirely: "Tumelo Nku is not an informer as he alleges because if that was the case, the drugs were supposed to be seized in Durban. Why would he risk travelling all the way to Durban and come back following the truck?" Witness J alleged Nku was a "facilitator for the containers that are used to conceal illegal drugs" and is "involved in drug trafficking" . Nku's testimony also revealed: He was introduced to Lt-Gen Sindile Mfazi (now deceased) by former Deputy Minister of Defence Gomolemo Kevimapatswe He had previously given information to Chief Inspector Mashaba on several occasions He used encrypted apps like SilentTel and Troop Messenger to communicate with Mfazi 🚨 The R300 Million Question: Was Tumelo Nku a whistleblower or a trafficker caught in his own web? 📌 Subscribe for more Madlanga Commission coverage. #MadlangaCommission #TumeloNku #AerotonDrugBust #SouthAfrica #CocaineBust #StateCapture #SAPS
